Artist Statement

Adam Ummar (b.1996) is a self-taught visual artist born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He primarily creates psychedelic abstract artworks in acrylic paint in traditional media & vector graphic software in digital media.

He uses shape and colours in his work as a metaphor for emotions & ideas to investigate the relationship between humans. With a keen interest in the human psyche he utilises arts as a tool to deconstruct and reconstruct the human mind and the world around him. His works often feature motifs inspired by microbiology & fauna alongside geometric motifs inspired by sacred geometry & fractals. The subject matter of his artworks are often inspired by psychology, spirituality and sociology. Ultimately, he sees his creative practice as a dialogue between the arts, science & humanities.

In 2020, he participated in the National Art Gallery’s Young Art Entrepreneur program. His artworks have been exhibited in various Malaysian art galleries and the Asia Pacific region including South Korea, Philippines, Taiwan & Vietnam.

UNIVORSO?

'Univorso' is the name of the Tumblr blog I had back in 2010 and has since evolved into my artist pseudonym.

The name ‘Univorso’ is inspired by the ancient Latin word 'universus' which means 'combined into one, whole'. It encompasses my artistic, ethical & philosophical worldview.

The Univorso logo features the seven colours associated with the chakras.

The white geometry motif is the 'flower of life' design achieved by equally proportional overlapping circles representing the interconnectedness of life.
